Since my last post was related to sexual practices among our children that might concern us, I figured I would just keep with the trend. Are you sitting down? Good. Here goes: Half of U.S. 15-19 year olds have had oral sex. And for 18-19 year olds, the figure is 70%. This report in Medical News Today also includes lots of data on adults that may be interesting to some, but fairly irrelevant when looking at our children (maybe not?).
It seems that we need to reinforce to our children that oral sex is not just a casual encounter, even though you cannot get pregnant doing it--theoretically. Even the way the statistics in this article are laid out suggest that oral sex does not “count,” so it is easy to see how kids could get this idea. Like the last post, I feel as though I have no real comment to add, except to encourage parents to think hard and trust your instincts. We are truly navigating a mine field, and your gut is your best bet, even with all the “expert” advice available.
