Oxycontin is not the only prescription drug being watched for abuse.  New drugs called Palladone and Carisoprodol are on the list as well, and Carisoprodol (sold as Rela and Soma) in particular is not scheduled so it cannot be tracked effectively.  These drugs are increasingly finding their way into high schools across the country through parents’ medicine cabinets and the internet.

This article on deseretnews.com includes some scary news for parents.  Just when we think we understand the latest and greatest drugs on the high school scene today, there are new ones.  Carisoprodol in particular, is not scheduled, so abuse is underreported.  But the coroners know it is being abused because it is showing up in more post-mortem reports.  This is one parents will want to stay informed on.
