Laura Bush challenges conventional views on boys vs. girls and asserts that despite stereotypes, young boys need equal amounts of nurturing as young girls.

On NPR’s All Things Considered, Laura Bush says “...we’ve sort of shifted our gaze away from boys for the last several decades...” and “all young children—boys or girls—and all adolescents do need a lot of support and a lot of nurturing from their parents and their teachers and the whole community.”

She proposes a three year initiative focused on the development of boys while discouraging negative behaviors towards women and gang activity.
