For parents who have survived the preschool stages of their children’s lives without catching a disease they didn’t know existed, we now have a new study that confirms what we already knew: 3 and 4 year olds are living, breathing petri dishes. We love them a lot, but they carry tons of germs. So, last year when the flu shot was in short supply, many of us with preschool aged children were wondering why these loving little germ mongers were not deemed worthy of a flu shot.
Now we have a doctor at a notable hospital to tell us that we’re not crazy. These kids carry around a lot of stuff. Personally, I had never even seen pink eye until a few weeks ago, and the only reason I noticed it is that I’m one of those moms who checks every crevice for signs of disturbance. Our own pediatrician pretty much insists that the kids in her practice get a flu shot because she says regardless of the CDC, they all end up in her office. She has let us get by with avoiding other vaccines, but the flu shot is clearly a priority. Thanks to CNN for bringing us this article. We need all the reinforcement we can get.
