This Yahoo! news story should have been listed under “Oddly Enough” because it truly demonstrates the idiocy that humans can exhibit at times.  The Illinois Board of Education is considering a proposal to ban milk - a food that in most of our nutrition classes receives a “thumbs up,” but plans to keep potato chips, which are clearly junk food.  The argument is that whole milk contains more fat and calories than one ounce of potato chips, so chips make the cut, and milk does not.  But, who eats one ounce of chips?  And what additives do those chips contain that would be otherwise harmful?

Children's Stories Can Be Harmful? Sun Dec 4, 2005 11:33 pm

This article in The New York Times will give you a laugh if nothing else.  The author has taken the text and pictures of Goodnight Moon, and made suggestions to make the story less harmful to children.  If you are overdone with kid books these days, take a look at this article and maybe a little levity will spark enthusiasm.

Ritalin and Adderall Abuse Among Students Fri Dec 2, 2005 12:12 am

I just had to share this one, because I didn’t even know the problem existed until our local news station broadcasted a story on it recently.  Then, when I looked through the internet, I discovered that this has apparently been an issue for several years now.  High school and college students have found that Ritalin and Adderall, drugs usually prescribed for Attention Deficit Disorder, also help students focus for longer periods of time during midterm and finals season.
